Data & AI · Home The Data Playbook

One place for the whole estate. The strategy behind our data, the field guide for using it day to day, the principles that hold both together, and the products that turn records into decisions.

The Decision Test · the spine of everything here

Data is only an asset when it changes a decision a named person makes. If you cannot name the decision, it is cost, not asset. Run any request, dashboard or report through three questions before you build it.

1
What decision does this change?
2
Who makes that decision?
3
What would they do differently once they have it?
The library

Three documents, two audiences

The same thinking at different depths. The strategic playbook is open to anyone who wants the full picture; the field guide is built for the front line; the one-pager keeps the principles in everyone's eyeline.

For anyone

Definitions Library

This is where AKG agrees what the important words mean before they become measures, dashboards or decisions. A definition should be plain enough for Operations to recognise and precise enough for BI, IT and Finance to build from.

Controlled definitions

One meaning before one version of the truth

The library holds agreed business definitions, calculation rules, owners and review status. It should stop the same phrase meaning different things in different reports.

Open the definitions library
Business definition
The plain English meaning of the term, written for the people who use it in operational decisions.
Data logic
The field, rule or calculation that turns the definition into something reportable.
Owner
The named role accountable for agreeing and maintaining the meaning.
Review status
Whether the definition is draft, approved, under review or retired.
Decision Test link: a definition is not admin for its own sake. It exists so that two people looking at the same number understand the same decision.
The how

From data to decisions: the products

This is where the principles meet the dashboard estate. Each product earns its place by naming the decision it changes and the person who makes it. As we rebuild the estate, every dashboard added here passes the Decision Test first.

Caseload & Work Pathway attendance

In development
Shows
Work Pathway sessions booked, attended and missed, by Employment Coach and by office.
Decision
Which participants an EC reaches out to this week, before a missed session becomes a lost outcome.
Owner
Operations records it; BI keeps the definitions.

Job Outcome Pipeline tracker

Planned
Shows
Where each participant sits on the earnings pipeline, from CE through the 1K, 2K, 3K and 4K pings to Job Outcome.
Decision
Where a Business Manager concentrates effort, so participants stalled between pings move to the next one and on to a Job Outcome.
Owner
Operations records it; Finance reconciles the earnings; BI keeps the stages consistent.

Data quality & completeness

In development
Shows
Records missing key fields, entered late, or flagged as not agreeing across systems.
Decision
What a Business Manager fixes at the cause across their sites this week, rather than explaining at month-end.
Owner
BI surfaces it; IT keeps the feeds running.
Add the next product
As the estate is rebuilt, each new dashboard slots in here with its decision and owner named. Copy the card template in the source to add one.
The people

Meet the BI team

Behind every product on this page are the people who keep the meaning of the data steady, so a number means the same thing wherever it is read.

BE

Ben Edgington

Director of Business Intelligence

Sets the direction for how the group uses its data and holds the standard for what a number is allowed to mean.

AB

Alan Beaton

Head of MI and Data Infrastructure

Keeps the reporting and the pipelines behind it running, so a record entered today reaches the people who act on it.

KC

Kevin Colborne

Head of BI and Data Analytics

Builds the products on this page and keeps definitions consistent, so everyone counts the same thing the same way.

ZP

Zekiel Padmore

Data Analyst

Builds and maintains the dashboards and analysis, turning records into the views teams use to decide.

ET

Emma Thurman

Data Governance and Delivery Coordinator

Keeps definitions documented and delivery on track, so the meaning of the data holds as it moves between teams.
